My Background

My personal history has included opportunities to live in a variety of countries and to be exposed to different languages, cultures, religions and perspectives.  As a result, I understand that there are many ways to perceive situations, relate to others, and respond to complex circumstances.

My undergraduate experience as a history and psychology major at Brown University provided a strong foundation in research on learning and motivation, as well as an appreciation of how people and civilizations evolve over time. As I considered my career options, it was important to me that my work incorporate my commitment to working with people, my desire to improve the lives of others, my interest in a profession that emphasized growth and ongoing learning, and my enjoyment of language and communication.

These ideas lead me to pursue graduate training in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. I obtained my doctorate in clinical psychology in 1986 and became licensed the following year.  Since then, I have maintained a clinical practice working with a diverse community.
