Philosophy and Approach

My approach to psychotherapy is collaborative and interactive.  I believe that psychotherapy involves our collective energies and commitment, as well as our combined expertise.  My contribution incorporates my clinical training, therapeutic insight, knowledge of human development, communication skills, creativity and motivation to help. Your expertise includes your knowledge of your history, your awareness of your own thoughts, feelings and immediate physical sensations, your ability to recognize what helps or impedes you in making life changes, and your understanding of your therapy goals.

Psychotherapy involves an active conversation. Together, we explore the nature of your existing challenges, identify recurrent themes and patterns, acknowledge strengths, and develop options and pathways forward.   The focus of psychotherapy is present and future centered, but it includes an appreciation of past influences and experiences. My approach is integrative, meaning that it incorporates concepts from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and family systems theory.
